Katie Brook is a director, producer, and educator focused on new plays and devised work. She has been presented at venues in New York City and beyond, including The Public Theater’s Under the Radar Festival, The Provincetown Tennessee Williams Theater Festival, Prelude NYC, Boston Playwrights Theatre, and Boom Arts in Portland.
Katie’s devised work is characterized by its use of dramatic texts and real-world content to experiment with acting and dramatic form in a collaborative context. Notable projects in this vein include ISLANDER, presented at HERE with the support of New Georges in 2021, The Power of Emotion, developed at Mount Tremper Arts and premiered at Abrons Arts Center in October 2017, and The Conspiracy Project, currently in development.
Recent directing credits include The Cherry Orchard (Quantum Theatre), Dr. Ride’s American Beach House (Ars Nova) and The MS Phoenix Rising (Playwrights Horizons Soundstage).
She is currently an Assistant Teaching Professor in Directing at Tufts University’s Department of Theatre, Dance and Performance Studies, where she has directed The Furies, Blood Wedding, and SPADE, a new work devised with students. Katie has also taught at MIT’s Department of Theatre and Dance, and CMU’s School of Drama.
As a producer, Katie has worked for various groundbreaking companies in New York City, including The Builders Association, Elevator Repair Service, The Foundry Theatre, and StoryCorps, all of which have a profound impact on her work today.
Katie received her MFA in Directing from Carnegie Mellon University. She is originally from Toronto, Canada.
